In this workshop offered in partnership with ONE Worcester, join us for a dynamic and interactive session where we will explore the Executive Director job description, gain an understanding of the hiring process and tips on what it takes to land the job. There will be a mix of presentation, small group work, self-reflection, and a panel of local, dynamic Executive Directors who stepped into this role within the last five years. They will share their perspectives on what the job really entails and how to prepare for it, and they’ll answer the key question: “If I knew then what I know now, what would I have done differently?

About the Panel Moderator

Nancy Jackson, principal partner and search consultant, brings a wealth of experience having overseen over 70 executive transitions, facilitated 10 merger processes, and crafted strategic plans for 25-30 organizations with varying scopes. Her contributions extend from serving in a lead search consulting role at TSNE Missionworks for 16 years to her previous role as a nonprofit executive director for 18 years. Using her experience as a certified facilitator, Nancy dedicates her expertise to guiding groups and organizations through transitions, strategic thinking, and staff retreats/interventions.

Since 2012, Nancy has been actively involved in providing training on succession planning. She has designed and successfully lead a cohort-style virtual forum tailored for nonprofit executives who are transitioning into retirement. She worked at the United Way of Central Massachusetts as an interim Vice President, designed and facilitated Leadership Worcester for nine years, and has consulted extensively with Worcester area nonprofits and community groups. Nancy is a graduate of Colorado College and the Boston College School of Social Work.

About the Panelists

Julie Bowditch is the executive director of CASA Project of Worcester County. She has extensive experience in fundraising, event management, marketing and communications, and human services. She is a pillar in her local community, volunteering for and promoting local nonprofits and small businesses. Julie is an active champion for local businesses and nonprofits.

Kim Davenport is CEO of Edward Street, an early education advocacy, policy and resource development organization. Prior to her role as CEO, Kim served as Vice President of Initiatives & Aligned Programs at Edward Street leading city-wide birth to 3rd grade alignment efforts for educators, community organizations and leaders to connect and strengthen the continuum of education for young children and families. 

Julie Orozco is the Executive Director of Abby’s House, one of the largest providers of affordable housing and supportive services for women and children in Worcester, Massachusetts. She brings more than two decades of experience in housing and human services, with a career defined by strengthening systems, building collaborative teams, and advancing trauma-informed approaches to care.
