About Us
Nonprofits of Worcester County celebrates the incredible nonprofit sector we have in the region, featuring nonprofits with connections to the Foundation that serve a range of issues, communities and geographies.
Created by Sarah Wormann for Greater Worcester Community Foundation’s 50th anniversary, the print features the following nonprofits:
- Worcester Cultural Coalition: The Cultural Coalition promotes arts and creativity as a community driver. The Foundation has supported the WCC in a number of ways, including the purchase of this guitar sculpture by José Criollo Guncay for Worcester's Main Street and the creation of the City of Worcester's Cultural Plan.
- The Hanover Theatre and Conservatory: The Hanover Theatre and the Jean McDonough Arts Center are two cornerstone performing arts venues in the heart of Worcester. The Foundation is proud to support these nonprofit institutions in a number of ways, including hosting several of their endowment funds.
- Regional Environmental Council: This illustration represents REC's YouthGROW program, which is a popular funding choice of the Foundation's teen-led Youth for Community Improvement program.
- 19 Carter: Located in Berlin, the Foundation is proud to support this community gathering space and its efforts to inspire similar creative hubs in small towns across Worcester County.
- The Printer’s Building: A hub for nonprofit organizations in Worcester, the Foundation supports many of the building's tenants, including Edward Street Child Services, Southeast Asian Coalition, The Shine Initiative and numerous arts organizations, such as WICN, ArtsWorcester, Technocopia, and Crocodile River Music.
- Worcester Public Library: The Foundation is proud to support libraries across the county as critical "third spaces" for communities. This illustration represents Worcester Public Library's “You Belong Here” mural, a large-scale public art and lighting installation created through community collaboration.
- New England Botanic Garden: This four-season botanic garden in Boylston offers a range of programming to engage the community, including Foundation-supported Project Bloom, a program that helps the Garden provide hands-on, nature-based learning experiences for youth.
- Millbury Public Library: The Foundation provided the library with a three-year grant to support children’s science and environmental programming through its Mary B. Grogan Fund.
- Friends of the Stone Church: Dedicated to preserving this historic building and turning it into a community gathering place, Friends of the Stone Church in Gilbertsville received Nonprofit Effectiveness Grant from the Foundation to help strengthen the group’s fundraising capacity for restoration efforts.
- Worcester Community Housing Resources: This illustration of 67-69 Petersham Rd in Hardwick represents the Foundation's first impact investment in affordable housing, providing Worcester Community Housing Resources with a low-interest line of credit that helped convert this single-family home into affordable rental units.
- Jeremiah’s Inn: Last year, the Jeremiah's Inn food pantry provided emergency food to nearly 10,000 households in South Worcester. This nutrition center is regularly funded through the Worcester County Food Bank's Fund to End Hunger, hosted at the Foundation.
- EcoTarium: Celebrating 200 years of science and nature, the Ecotarium has been supported by fundholders at the Foundation since its founding, helping to fund the museum's programs and operations.
- Greater Worcester Land Trust: Dedicated to preserving and protecting Worcester County’s open space, the Greater Worcester Land Trust has received funding from the Foundation for its conservation work and was a key partner in the development of the Foundation's Land Trust Capacity-Building Grant Program.
- Mass Audubon: Another key partner in the Foundation's Worcester County Green Fund, Mass Audubon protects the nature of Massachusetts for people and wildlife. The illustration represents a Foundation grant to make this wildlife sanctuary’s trails more accessible for visitors of all ages.
- The Village Worcester: The Village is an Afrocentric cultural, learning, & healing center in the Main South neighborhood of Worcester. The Foundation is proud to support both The Village and Worcester Earn-A-Bike, which is located at the back of The Village.
- Mustard Seed Catholic Worker: This longstanding neighborhood hub provides hundreds of warm meals daily in Worcester’s Piedmont area and receives general operating support from the Foundation.
