Chris and Helena Liazos Scholarship Fund for South High Students

Christos (Chris) and Helena Liazos together operated the landmark Webster House Restaurant for more than 30 years. They were grounded in family, church, and their community, and benefited the city in many ways.

Chris came to America from Albania in 1955 and served in the National Guard and U.S. Army. Helena was born and raised in Worcester. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School and the Ward School of Business. Together they raised two sons, Andrew and Theodore, and later in life enjoyed nothing more than spending time with their grandchildren.

Chris and Helena were longtime members of the Saint Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Helena was a member of its Philoptochos, a ladies’ philanthropic society, and sang in its choir. Chris served on the parish council. Both donated their time and talents to ensure the success of the annual Saint Spyridon Grecian Festival, as well as the parish's many cultural, youth, and fundraising events.

Chris and Helena also maintained life-long relationships with the Webster House family of customers and staff, and were active in the community. Chris gave generously of his time to the Webster Square Business Association, the Alliance for Education, and the Holy Trinity Nursing Home.

Helena and Chris contribute to their community and parish in perpetuity through two scholarship funds. The Chris and Helena Liazos Scholarship Fund for South High Students will each year award a scholarship to a college-bound senior at South High School. The Chris and Helena Liazos Scholarship Fund for Saint Spyridon's Families will help future generations of students from parish families. Scholarship recipients will demonstrate financial need and show promise based on academic achievement, work and community service.

"Our parents believed in education, and in helping others to achieve their aspirations," says Theodore. "These scholarships honor our parents and their values."
